It’s been a rough stretch for the Chicago White Sox as of late, but watching Tim Anderson play shortstop is a good thing. His throw from Thursday’s game against the Detroit Tigers was proof of that.

Tim Anderson’s career projection isn’t on a Derek Jeter-like level yet, but if he keeps making plays like the old New York Yankees captain used to, that might change.

With two outs in the second inning on Thursday night in Chicago, Mike Aviles hit a sharp grounder in between the third base and shortstop hole that almost got through for a hit.

Luckily for the White Sox, their former top prospect in the team’s farm system was there to not only field the ball, but make a ridiculous throw to nab Aviles sprinting down the line at first base.

Anderson has been one of the lone bright spots for the White Sox, who sit in fourth place in the AL Central and seem to be going nowhere anytime soon. They’ve been rumored to some potential deals, but nothing will revolve around their fresh face at shortstop.

A span where the White Sox lost 20 of 27 games in a stretch this season, along with free agent signing Jimmy Rollins being designated for assignment, both contributed to Anderson being called up to fill the void at shortstop.

So far, it’s been a solid experience for Anderson. He’s currently hitting .283 with five home runs and 11 runs batted in, but it’s his defense (like you just saw) that should have White Sox fans excited for what Anderson can do in the future on Chicago’s South Side.

The more Jeter-esque plays from Anderson to keep fans coming to the ballpark, the better.
