Chris Kreider re-signs with New York Rangers for four years
Chris Kreider has agreed to a four-year deal worth $4.625 million per season with the New York Rangers just minutes before their arbitration case.
The New York Rangers were set to go to arbitration with Chris Kreider on Friday morning. Minutes before their case was scheduled to start, they agreed to a four-year deal. Kreider will have a cap hit of $4.625 million per season and the deal is worth $18.5 million total.
Kreider has a ton of potential, but has yet to fully live up to it. Despite that, he has been very productive with the Rangers with 61 goals and 68 assists for 129 points in 248 regular season games. He has added 33 points in 65 postseason games. Kreider has 43 points during the 2015-16 season, including 21 goals and 22 assists.
Now that the Rangers have locked up Kreider long-term, they still have over $6 million of cap space to sign restricted free agent Kevin Hayes and add a 14th forward. Overall, the Rangers got a very nice deal for Kreider. He is a very talented forward and he’s one of their most dangerous forwards. While he hasn’t lived up to his full potential, Kreider could wind up being a nice bargain if he can be more consistent.
The Rangers drafted Kreider in the first round of the 2009 NHL Draft. He made his NHL debut on January 19, 2013 and has stayed on their roster ever since. Kreider is expected to play on the second line with new center Mika Zibanejad.
