DraftKings MLB: Top Bargain plays for July 21st

Finding value can be the ever so elusive, “Holy Grail.” Making cap room for pitchers and big bats can make all the difference in a lineup. With a little elbow grease in the research department, I’m hoping to provide a handful of players that could provide critical salary relief for tonight’s DraftKings MLB slate.

Tonight’s slate features 15 games, two of which have totals of ten or higher. In order to get get exposure to a few of these high priced bats, we’ll have to find some cheap value plays. The pirates picks were just “meh” last night, but I’ll be going back to the well tonight as they’re still under priced.

Darwin Barney – TOR (2B/3B) – $2800

Barney will be facing a righty tonight and he carries a .342 wOBA split against them. Darwin offers dual position eligibility and the Jays have one of the higher team totals at 5.1 runs.

John Jaso – PIT (1B) – $2900

Jaso was held to one hit in three at bats, last night, but I like him again tonight facing the Phillies’ righty, Eflin. Where Jaso is positioned in the lineup order will determine the extend of his value. If he draws a spot below 5th in the order, he loses value.

Adam Frazier – PIT (OF/SS) – $3000

Fraizer had a decent night with a hit and a RBI, and just like Jaso, Fraizer should take advantage of facing a righty and batting towards the beginning of the order.

Tyler Collins – DET (OF) – $2700

Collins was scratched for a few games earlier this week with neck spasms, but could see action tonight. He’s still listed as day-to-day, but if he does play, he’ll have a favorable match up as a lefty vs. a righty. Detroit has a team total of 5.2 runs.

Jose Iglesias – DET (SS) – $2500

While not drawing the best match up, Iglesias provides decent value for a reduced price if you decide to punt at the shortstop position. One way to find upside while punting a position, is to target punt options with high team totals, such as Detroit.

Note: Keep in mind that recommended plays are based off of early information and will be subject  to change as lineups are released. Some cheaper players are more suspect to be scratched from the lineup or bumped down the lineup order. Follow me on Twitter @MattMcGarvey215, where I’ll try to update these plays the best I can!
