FanDuel daily picks: Fantasy baseball lineup-July 22
Third Baseman
High-Salary Option: Josh Donaldson-Toronto Blue Jays (4,700): Even with Nolan Arenado in action in the rarified air of Coors Field, Donaldson is definitely the way to go if you have big money to spend on a 3B. Donaldson has collected multiple hits in three straight games and has started July 23-59 (.390) with five homers and 17 RBI. He has lifted his OPS to 1.020 on the season and is even better against lefties (1.105 OPS) and at home (1.075 OPS) both of which are relevant splits tonight as the Jays welcome the Mariners and southpaw James Paxton to the Rodgers Centre.∗∗∗∗
Mid-Range Option: Kris Bryant-Chicago Cubs (3,900): Bryant has gone 18-56 (.321) to start the not of July with three homers and five RBI. He has lifted his average to .285 and his OPS to an impressive .939 as he and the Cubs head to Milwaukee tonight. Bryant is 3-13 (.231) in his career against Jimmy Nelson, but he has collected multiple hits in each of his last two games and also picked up two stolen bases in his last three games adding a new dimension to his multi-faceted value.∗∗∗
Mid-Range Option: Jake Lamb-Arizona Diamondbacks (3,500): Lamb went 0-8 against the Blue Jays in the two games he faced them after lighting up the Dodgers for a 7-12 series coming out of the break. I think he’ll get back on track tonight against the Reds at Great American Ballpark, and he’s a good value after a couple of down games. Lamb is still hitting .294 on the season with a .990 OPS.∗∗∗
Mid-Range Option: Cheslor Cuthbert-Kansas City Royals (3,000): Even though facing Yu Darvish definitely raises the rest, Cuthbert is a solid play tonight against the Rangers. He comes in having hit safely in 15 of his 16 games this month while going 22-57 (.386). He has been even hotter lately going 10-22 since the All Star break. He doesn’t offer elite speed or power, but he’ll be swinging a hot bat at just 3K.∗∗
High-Value Option: Jose Reyes-New York Mets (2,700): Reyes returns to take on one of his former teams as he visits Miami tonight and faces southpaw Adam Conley. Reyes has hit lefties well for most of his career and is 5-18 against southpaws in his limited sample size this season. Reyes is 10-47 (.213) overall but still has a solid .780 OPS as a result of his three homers. He’s one of the better plays under 3K tonight especially since he typically leads off for the Mets.∗∗
High-Value Option: Hernan Perez-Milwaukee Brewers (2,200): Perez will be looking for his fourth straight multi-hit game tonight as he faces Jason Hammel and the Cubs. He has raised his average for the year to .279 with a 12-40 (.300) start to the month. He’s a cheap flier tonight, but he has been hitting well since the break (8-17, 2B, HR) so go with him if you need a cheap play.∗∗
