Jae Crowder told Al Horford not to sign with the Wizards because they couldn’t beat the Celtics.
Every summer NBA free agency seems to get many headlines as it’s something to talk about after the NBA Finals are over. Though this year’s free agency was particularly more noteworthy for a variety of reasons.
Some of those reasons were because of the ever-rising salary cap that led to many big deals and because of Kevin Durant making the big move to join the Golden State Warriors.
Within free agency, management makes pitches to free agents in order to try to lure them to their respective teams. As we have seen recently, the players even get involved in making their respective pitches to free agents.
During the Boston Celtics’ courtship of Al Horford, Celtics forward Jae Crowder got involved in the pitch the same way he did with Kevin Durant.
Some of the teams that were rumored into being linked to Horford in free agency were the Oklahoma City Thunder, Washington Wizards and Boston Celtics. So to make Horford’s decision a little bit easier for him, Jae Crowder had some words of advice.
According to NBC Sports, during free agency “Jae Crowder told Al Horford not to sign with Wizards because they couldn’t beat (the Celtics).”
This was a bold move by Crowder, as he was being brutally honest, that ultimately worked out for him as Horford would eventually sign with the Celtics.
Though, with regards to landing Kevin Durant, Crowder’s made an even bolder and more brutally honest pitch that happened to back fire on him and he’s still upset about it to this day.
