Sabres forward Evander Kane arrested
Buffalo Sabres forward Evander Kane has been arrested due to criminal trespassing stemming from a bar incident from earlier this summer.
The Buffalo Sabres took a huge risk when they traded for forward Evander Kane at the 2015 NHL trade deadline. At the time, Kane was an extremely talented forward who had off-the-ice issues. Since he has joined the Sabres, his off-the-ice issues have not stopped, as he has been involved in several incidents. Kane was reportedly arrested early on Friday morning for criminal trespassing, stemming from an incident at a bar earlier this summer.
While this is the first time that Kane has been arrested during his time with the Sabres, this isn’t a good look for him. He faced sexual assault allegations late in 2015 and also had the bar incident from this offseason. Kane will only be charged with a misdemeanor at this time, but more charges might be brought up against him. People convicted of trespassing typically don’t see significant jail time, especially not for misdemeanors.
Kane was either charged with third-degree criminal trespassing or second-degree criminal trespassing because first-degree criminal trespassing is a felony in the state of New York. As more details from the case become known, we will keep you updated. Regardless, this is not a good sign for the Sabres or for Kane, especially considering Kane’s issues in the past. The Sabres have not released a statement as of 11:45 AM Eastern Standard Time.
