Comic-Con 2016: Conan hosts the cast of Game of Thrones

Conan O’Brien’s Game of Thrones show during San Diego Comic-Con covered everything from getting “the call” from showrunners to Hodor’s nuts.

It may be San Diego Conan Con, but Conan O’Brien owns late nights around here as he takes his show on the road for the second year in a row. During the Friday taping (which airs Sunday as the “last” show of the convention), the cast of Game of Thrones once again joined Conan after an exhilarating Hall H panel session and Q&A.

Spoiler Warning: There are spoilers from season 6 so tread lightly if you haven’t seen the entire season.

Conan’s guests included John Bradley, Liam Cunningham, Nathalie Emmanuel, Conleth Hill, Faye Marsay, Kristian Nairn, Iwan Rheon, Issac Hempstead Wright, and showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. Interestingly, Bran was the only person representing House Stark, and despite all of the drama that went down in season 6, there were no Lannisters to be found.

Liam Cunningham got the first question this year after he spent most of last year’s show sitting quietly. Conan wanted to know how Davos avoids getting killed off year after year, and Cunningham admitted that the secret is to not answer the phone with Benioff and Weiss call.

That dreaded phone call came in the sixth season for Rheon (Ramsay Bolton) and Nairn (Hodor). Conan wondered if Wright was getting a lot of backlash from fans who believe that Bran is responsible for Hodor’s death, and Wright joked that he had a lot of angry fans after Hodor died.

The duo shared an embrace to assure fans that there’s no bad blood between the two. Nairn told fans that he kept a few items from the set after his final episode: a piece of the infamous door and his bag of moldy acorns that Hodor had carried around since the beginning. He reckoned that he should be able to keep Hodor’s nuts.

Nathalie Emmanuel talked about fans who believe that Missandei and Dany might have some kind of a fling, but she’s not giving anything away. Speaking of secrets, Weiss and Benioff say they know exactly how the show will end, but as expected, mum’s the word.
