Houston may be on the move to the Big 12 conference thanks to the support recently shown from both the University of Texas and Texas Tech programs.
Could Houston be on the move to the Big 12 conference in the near future? Based on two other schools in the state showing recent support, it could very well happen. Texas was he first to come out with a public endorsement of the move and now Texas Tech has as well. The president of University of Texas recently came out and tweeted how he felt about the idea and it seems he was glowing with praise for it.
As we look at opportunities for Big 12 expansion, I support considering @UHouston for the conference. UH is a huge asset for Texas.

Just a day later, the incoming president for Texas Tech, Lawrence Schovanec, Ph.D., also issued a statement showing his school’s support for the Houston move to the Big 12.

The reason having both Big 12 presidents giving their approval is so huge is due to the fact that they will be part of the vote over whether the Cougars end up in the conference. There’s already been support made known from Big 12 head coaches, the Texas governor, the state university system chancellor, and a billionaire booster.
Right now, Houston is still a part of the American Athletic Conference (AAC), but was previously in Conference USA and the Southwest in addition to Missouri Valley and several others. They’ve racked up one title in the AAC already, but competing in the Big 12 would be a whole different story with powerhouse teams like Oklahoma there.
The team has said it’s going to take some time to evaluate the move, but things are looking bright for the future of their program right now.
