2. Will Smith

Even if the Indians were to add a name such as Chapman, it wouldn’t be a major surprise to see them also add a pitcher like Smith. Turning the bullpen from an average one at best into an elite type of pen may take more than one arm, and with a rotation like the Indians, if they have the pen on lock it could be game over.

Smith would also be a major upgrade because he is left handed. When looking at the Indians current roster, they do not really even have a left handed option to come out of the bullpen. It will be tough to be a threat in the postseason if you can not get out of those late innings situations against a left handed hitter.

That said, unless Andrew Miller becomes more available which is unlikely, Smith may be one of the best left handed options on the market. He has been hurt earlier in the year, but in 18 innings has a 1.93 ERA. Given that he was injured, and that the Brewers are looking to recover any young assets, Smith could end up being had on the cheap.

Smith is also under team control through 2019. The Indians being bare on left handed pitching probably would not mind having a veteran left handed reliever to stick around for a few years, For the right price, there is no reason the Indians should not be looking to acquire Smith.
