Chris Froome dominated for the majority of the race to win the 2016 Tour de France
Coming into the 2016 Tour de France, Great Britain’s Chris Froome already had two Tour de France victories to his credit, the most recent coming just last year. And without question he entered the race this year as the absolute favorite to win, but what may have been the most surprising development was just how incredibly dominant he was from start to finish in the race.
Froome first won the yellow jersey in the 2016 Tour de France after he made a bold an unforeseen move during Stage 8. When you give a rider with the abilities and talent of Froome that kind of early lead, it’s bad news for the rest of the field and that was undoubtedly the case in the Tour de France. After taking the lead in Stage 8, he never relinquished the yellow jersey again.
In face, Froome only kept adding to his lead as he boasted a strong four-minute lead over the rest of the field. So as they rode into Paris for the final stage, Stage 21, on Sunday, it was essentially a race to not crash and just to get the victory secured.
