DraftKings fantasy golf picks: PGA Championship 2016
It’s already time for the Final Major Championship of the season, so get your roster ready with the help of my DraftKings fantasy golf picks for this week’s PGA Championship.
The 2016 Olympics have made plenty of waves in the golf world even though many of the biggest names are bypassing the event. Not only has “who’s in” and “who’s out” drawn plenty of attention, the event in Rio has upset the calendar forcing the final Major of the season to move forward to this week just a single week after the previous Major at The Open Championship. It’ll be interesting to see how similar the results are since the event has most of the same golfers and will be a similar high-pressure environment. Make sure to get the players you think will excel on your fantasy golf team, and to see who I like check out my DraftKings fantasy golf picks on the following slides.
The field this week is the strongest of any event this season including 97 of the top 100 in the OWGR (Official World Golf Rankings) after The Open. Henrik Stenson will look to repeat his win at Royal Troon from a couple weeks ago while Jason Day will look to defend the PGA Championship he claimed last year at Whistling Straits. Day hoisted the Wanamaker Trophy (pictured above) after beating out Jordan Spieth who he played alongside in the final pairing and the rest of the field while scorching the course with a record score of -20. This year, he’ll be one of many big names taking on the new challenge of Baltusrol Golf Club.
Baltusrol Golf Club is the historic home of the PGA Championship this year located in Springfield, New Jersey. Baltusrol has hosted seven U.S. Opens and a pair of PGA Championships in its history with the most recent PGA Championship held here back in 2005. Phil Mickelson emerged with a win that year after a Monday finish, and Lefty is sure to be a popular pick again this week after his runner-up finish at The Open two weeks ago.

The course itself was originally designed in 1918 by A.W. Tillinghast and names after Baltus Roll who owned and farmed the land in the 1800’s before he was murdered by two treasure-hunting thieves. The course has been overhauled by Robert Trent Jones and his son Rees Jones and has repeatedly been listed as one of the best courses in the US. The Lower Course will host the event this week playing as a par-70. The course finishes with back-to-back par-5’s which are the only two par-5’s on the layout this week since the other two long holes (first and seventh) play as par-4’s for professional tournaments changing the course from par-72 to par-70.
