4. St. Louis Cardinals
The Cardinals have been looking for the right combination of outfielders all season. They have shuffled a group of players, Randal Grichuk, Stephen Piscotty, Matt Holliday, Tommy Pham, Jeremy Hazelbaker, Brandon Moss, and have even experimented with Kolten Wong at times.
Of that group, the left handed hitters are Wong, Moss, and Hazelbaker. Wong is a former second baseman, and is back at second base while Matt Carpenter is on the disabled list. Moss is on the disabled list, and will be shuffling between first base and right field when healthy anyways. That leaves Hazelbaker, who has spent most of his time this season and throughout his career in the minor leagues. All that said, an upgrade at left handed outfielder is not the worst thing the Cardinals can do at the trade deadline this year.
This is a team that just this off-season saw John Lackey and Jason Heyward leave for the rival Chicago Cubs via free agency. The last thing they want to do is go into the late months of the season regretting that they did not buy enough at the trade deadline to compete with their rivals.
Their big need from position players would have to be a left handed outfielder, and given the price paid versus production needed, Reddick is the best value on the market. The Cardinals are usually a team to take advantage of value and may be able to make a smart addition in Reddick.
