Recent MLB trade rumors have been about the Toronto Blue Jays talking with the San Diego Padres about pitcher Andrew Cashner.

With the MLB trade deadline a few days away, there have been a lot of MLB trade rumors flying around. One of the pitchers that have been frequently mentioned is Andrew Cashner of the San Diego Padres.

According to Chris Cotillo, the Padres and the Blue Jays have been in discussions about a possible deal that would send Cashner to the Blue Jays. Cashner is not having a good season for the Padres this year, as he has totaled a 4-7 record and 4.79 ERA. Despite not performing well this season, Cashner is still one of the most talked about names of pitchers that might be moved.

This isn’t the first time that the Blue Jays and Padres have talked about Cashner, as last season the Blue Jays were also interested in Cashner. However, instead of getting Cashner, the Blue Jays acquired David Price and were able to make the playoffs.

There should be concerns for the Blue Jays about Cashner, as he hasn’t been the same pitcher he once was for over a season and a half now. There has been a noticeable decrease in performance from Cashner, and a move to the American League from San Diego isn’t a recipe for pitching better.

The price might not be as high as it was last season for Cashner, but the Blue Jays might be better suited to try and acquire a better pitcher before the trade deadline. The Blue Jays find themselves once again with a chance to win the American League East, and with the Boston Red Sox already improving, they might be forced to as well. Adding depth to the backend of the rotation would be helpful for the Blue Jays, but Cashner might not be the answer.
