The Chicago Cubs are very close to acquiring New York Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman in a deal that would send at least two players to the Yankees.
Aroldis Chapman is one of the most electrifying closers in baseball. Even in an “off-year”, he is still striking out over 12 batters per nine innings and has been lights out for the Yankees. The Yankees gambled on him last offseason by acquiring him despite domestic violence allegations against him. Chapman has rewarded them for their faith in him and the Yankees could get a huge haul for him. The Chicago Cubs are reportedly very close to acquiring him.

Should the Cubs acquire Chapman, it would likely cost them at least two players and perhaps as many as four. Top 20 prospect Gleyber Torres, a very promising 19-year-old shortstop who likely has what it takes to be an excellent shortstop or second baseman, and former Yankees reliever Adam Warren would be involved in the deal.

As many as four players could be heading to the Yankees. This would be an insanely good haul for the Yankees. It would be one even if all they got was Torres. The Cubs would be paying a very high premium for Chapman, but they are all-in for a World Series this year, so it is worth it for them. Torres might not have had a spot on the team even if he panned out. If the Cubs win the World Series this year, fans won’t miss Torres one bit.
