Florida Gators quarterback Treon Harris will be transferring from the University of Florida.

The University of Florida Gators went into this offseason expecting Treon Harris to compete for the starting quarterback job. It turns out that Harris will be transferring from Florida, according to 247Sports.com.

"As a sophomore, Harris hit 50-percent of his passes for 1,676 yards with nine touchdowns and six interceptions.Harris, if he transfers to a Division 1 program, will have two years of eligibility remaining after sitting out this fall due to NCAA transfer rules. He’s eligible right away on the 1-AA level."

Without Harris, Austin Appleby, Luke Del Rio, and freshmen Feleipe Franks and Kyle Tras are expected to compete for the starting quarterback job. Del Rio took most of the snaps at spring practice, which suggests he will have the upper hand in the battle.

Because Harris struggled last season, he likely wasn’t going to win the QB competition at Florida. He is a versatile athlete who could likely start at most 1-AA schools as a quarterback or perhaps even as a receiver. His next move will be an important one. Does Harris want to remain a quarterback? Or does he want to explore making the move to wide receiver?

Harris threw for 1,676 passing yards including nine touchdowns and six interceptions in nine games last season. He struggled mightily against Alabama and Michigan, and didn’t look much better against South Carolina or Florida State University.
