Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll has agreed to a contract extension with the NFC West football club through the 2019 NFL season.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Seattle Seahawks have agreed to a contract extension with head coach Pete Carroll, having him signed through the 2019 NFL season. This signing comes two days after Seattle decided to extend general manager John Schneider.

Schefter also reported that while Carroll is the oldest active NFL head coach at 64, the Seahawks had no hesitation about giving him contract extension through 2019.

While Carroll has brought unrivaled success to the Pacific Northwest’s NFL franchise, he will turn 65 during Week 2 of the 2016 NFL season. Should he coach all four remaining years left on his new deal with the Seahawks, Carroll will be 68 years old.

Age apparently isn’t an issue with regards to the greatest head coach in Seahawks history. Since taking over the Seattle football team in 2010, Carroll has gone 93-67 during the regular season, making the NFC Playoffs five of six years, winning the NFC West three times, winning the NFC Championship twice, and bringing the Lombardi Trophy to the Pacific Northwest as Super Bowl XLVIII Champions in 2013.

It makes sense for the Seahawks organization to not disrupt the head coach/general manager partnership Carroll and Schneider have. Schneider continues to find great players in day three of NFL Drafts and should have plenty of drafts left in the tank, as he is only 45 years old.

Carroll may be the oldest head coach in the NFL, but that doesn’t mean that he isn’t one of the best in the game today. He should easily win his 100th regular season game in 2016 and will have his Seahawks fighting for NFC Playoff positioning as one of the better teams in the best division in football: the NFC West.
