DraftKings Early MLB Picks For July 27

There are six games in the afternoon session, and half of the pitchers are priced at $9,000 or more. Where are the bargains so we can pay for pitching? Let’s hit the stats!

More from DFS

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players.

Michael Fulmer has never faced the Red Sox. The White Sox roughed him up a little bit last week, proving that he is still human. Be aware that the Red Sox may be able to do the same.

Zach Eflin has never faced the Marlins. His 3-3 record, 3.40 ERA, and 1.05 WHIP make him an enticing option against a middle of the road offense. Want more reasons to use him? He has four quality starts in four tries in July. Two of those were complete games, including his first career shutout against the Pirates last Friday. He is hot right now!

Luis Perdomo has never faced the Blue Jays. If you decide to use a guy with a 6.93 ERA against the Jays at home, then maybe DFS isn’t for you.

Best Bets:

Stephen Strasburg ($10,600): The Indians are hitting a very good .313 against Strasburg in 48 at bats with a homer, seven RBI, and 12 strikeouts. Those numbers aren’t very good. So why is he here? Marlon Byrd has the homer and six of the seven RBI off of him, and he is out serving a suspension. If you take Byrd’s stats out, the Indians are still a respectable 9-29, but they only have two extra base hits and one RBI. That makes Strasburg worth using because of his high strikeout potential on a short slate.

Marco Estrada ($10,200): The Padres are hitting just .209 against Estrada in 43 at bats with a homer, three RBI, and nine strikeouts. On top of that, Jon Jay is on the disabled list. He is responsible for that homer and those three RBI. No one else has touched Estrada. That makes him a really strong play here.

Honorable Mention:

Brandon McCarthy ($10,800): The Rays are hitting .224 off of McCarthy in 67 at bats from his A.L. days with two homers, seven RBI, and 14 strikeouts. Those are solid numbers. He is also 2-0 with a 1.61 ERA and 0.72 WHIP in four starts this year. A correction is likely coming, but there is nothing to suggest that it happens here.

Adam Conley ($9,000): The Phillies have only managed a .232 average against Conley in 69 at bats with five extra base hits (all doubles) and four runs to go with 12 strikeouts. Three of those runs were driven in by Aaron Altherr and Andres Blanco, both of whom are on the DL. Conley has been solid since his June 28th meltdown against the Tigers. He is a solid option once again today.

Dark Horses:

Dan Straily ($7,900): The Giants are just 8-43(.186) lifetime against Straily, but they have only struck out four times. The good news is that they have only three RBI despite the two homers. His chances of a win against Madison Bumgarner aren’t great, but Straily’s numbers against the Giants are much better than MadBum’s against the Reds. For what that’s worth.

Eduardo Rodriguez ($5,200): The caveat here is that Rodriguez has not been nearly as effective this year, posting a 6.70 ERA in eight starts. Last year he went seven strong innings against the Tigers. The only blemish was a solo home run by Nick Castellanos. He gave up just three hits and struck out six. What are the chances of him doing it this year?

Not many people have success against Madison Bumgarner, but Billy Hamilton ($3,200) is one of them. Hamilton is 4-10 with a homer and three RBI against MadBum. Joey Votto ($3,500) dispels the lefty-lefty myth, going 5-14(.357) with a homer and two RBI. Zack Cozart ($3,000) has also taken Bumgarner deep, but he is just 2-14(.143) lifetime.

If Stephen Drew ($2,900) plays, he is worth using. Drew is 4-12 with two solo home runs against Carlos Carrasco.

Brandon Belt ($3,000) is only 1-4 with a walk against Dan Straily, but that one hit is a solo homer.

Evan Longoria ($3,900) is only 4-18(.222) against Brandon McCarthy, but he has a homer and three RBI. Hank Conger ($2,300) is 2-3 with a double and two RBI.

Joc Pederson ($3,600) has only faced Matt Moore twice, but he hit a solo homer off of him and walked. Howie Kendrick ($4,700) is 4-12 with a double and two RBI. At least Moore doesn’t have to deal with Trayce Thompson, who has a homer and four RBI off of him in three at bats.

Tyler Goeddel ($2,500) is perfect against Adam Conley with two singles, a double, and a RBI.
