High ValueĀ SP
Jon Gray-Colorado Rockies (8,000):Ā If youāre looking for a cheaper play than any of the four optionsĀ on the last slide, there are some good values tonight, but they do come with a slight uptick in risk. Ā Gray is a good example of that since he has been looking great lately, but heās risky due to his matchup against the hard-hitting Orioles.
Rockies starters donāt make this list often, but Gray has been on a mission to change that lately. Ā So far in July, the Oklahoma product is 1-1 with a very nice 2.05 ERA to go with 28 strikeouts in 26.1 innings. Ā He has qualified for a quality start in each of his four starts this month even though two have come int he rarified air of Coors Field. Ā He wonāt have that issue tonight as he visits the Orioles in the Queen City, but he will have to deal with the Oās bats which have been hot all season especially at home where they always seem to put up good run totals with several home runs. Gray has lots of upside based on his form, but facing the Orioles is always risky.āā
Jimmy Nelson-Milwaukee BrewersĀ (7,600):Ā Nelson comes into tonightās start against Arizona 6-8 with a 3.40 ERA in his fourth year in the Majors, but he has shown plenty of upside for a Brewers team that doesnāt look ready to contend for the postseason just yet. Ā Nelson has been much better at home (4-4, 2.54 ERA, .226 average against) than on the road (2-4, 4.69 ERA, .277 average against), and heĀ comes into tonightās outing with some solid momentum (2.63 ERA in July).
Nelson got a little unlucky against the Cubs in his last outing allowing a pair of unearned runs and only making it through five innings, but he had back-to-back nice starts before that allowing just two total runs in 13 innings to the Cardinals and Reds. Ā Nelson will be starting against Arizona for the firstĀ time this season, but he did goĀ 1-0 with a 2.77 ERA and 13 Kās in 13 innings last year against the Snakes.āāā
Mike Foltynewicz-Atlanta Braves (6,800):Ā Overall, Foltynewicz has had an up-and-down year, but he has been pretty solid lately turning in two quality starts before a so-so outing which came against the Rockies at Coors Field. Ā He has gone 1-2 with a 3.91 ERA in July with 25 Kās in 25.1 innings. Ā Heāll have the advantage tonight of facing the Twins who havenāt seen him much in an interleague game in Minnesota. Heās a high-risk play, to be sure, but of the options under 7K, I think he has the most potential to turn in good numbers.ā
