Los Angeles Rams waive quarterback Nick Foles

Shortly before the Los Angeles Rams begin their 2016 training camp at UC-Irvine, the teams has waived its former starting quarterback, Nick Foles.
According to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Los Angeles Rams have released their former starting quarterback, Nick Foles. Foles is now an unrestricted free agent able to sign with any NFL team.
Rapoport’s NFL Network colleague Mike Garafolo hinted earlier on Wednesday that the Rams were going to waive Foles, as Los Angeles was unable to put together a trade for their former starting quarterback.
Foles’ release by the Rams doesn’t come as much of a surprise, as Los Angeles drafted California Golden Bears star quarterback Jared Goff with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. Goff could start Week 1 for the Rams, but it seems that head coach Jeff Fisher and general manager Les Snead are comfortable of trotting out Case Keenum until Goff is ready. Keenum went 3-2 as a starter for the 2015 St. Louis Rams in six games last fall.
Foles was a Pro Bowler with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2013. He had a career year for Chip Kelly’s team, throwing for 2,891 yards, 22 touchdowns, and only two interceptions in 10 starts, going 8-2.
With Los Angeles choosing to part ways with Foles before beginning their first training camp in Southern California on July 30 at UC-Irvine, it’s certain that the Goff era of Rams football is rapidly approaching.
Though Foles struggled mightily in 2015, quarterbacking the worst passing offense in the NFL, he still offers high upside as a strong backup quarterback or potentially a fringe starter for a team in dire need of a veteran passer.
