Here are five moves that the American League West leading Texas Rangers should make at the 2016 MLB Trade Deadline.
The Texas Rangers currently find themselves in first place in the American League West. Even with the Houston Astros surging, Texas finds themselves with a pretty comfortable 3.5 game lead. However, in order to hold off the Astros and win the AL West, they have to fix the few weaknesses that they have.
First base has been an issue all season for Texas. Prince Fielder was terrible for them and his injury might actually be a good thing for them. Ian Desmond has been fine in center field for them, but they could really use a more natural center fielder than Desmond. Even once Shin-Soo Choo comes back healthy, Desmond should probably not be in center field if they want to win a World Series. Moving Desmond to DH would go a long way to helping solve that issue.
Their rotation has been solid, but they need more than solid to win the World Series, especially since their bullpen isn’t worth comparing to the 2015 Royals bullpen. Texas could stand to upgrade their bullpen as well. Their bench could be better too. Despite being in first place, Texas is still a somewhat flawed team. They need to fix those flaws.
