NFL Fantasy News: Ryan Fitzpatrick heads back to New York!

In breaking NFL Fantasy news, Ryan Fitzpatrick finally signs with the Jets.  They came to terms today on a 1 year deal for $12 million, which also has some incentives that could add another $3 million to the deal.  The Jets finally caved in and offered a little more than they were willing to give at the beginning of free agency.  This signing is huge for the Jets, as they now have a chance to potentially take an early lead in the AFC East, with Tom Brady serving a 4 game suspension to begin the season.  Every team in the AFC East needs all they help they can get to take the division from the New England Patriots.  Fitzpatrick certainly helps the Jets tremendously in their quest to compete for the AFC East title.

What does this mean for fantasy?  Well, to be quite honest, this was a huge signing for the fantasy world.  The two players it obviously impacts the most are WR’s Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker.  Both of those guys had outstanding years last year, and I look for that to continue.  Both guys move up my draft board a little with Fitz under center.  I like Marshall to have more targets and yards, but Decker will likely be right there with him in the TD department.

Matt Forte gets a slight uptick as well.  With Fitzpatrick able to throw the ball a little, teams will be forced to not stack the box.  Forte is also a good receiving back which gives him a bump in that area too.  It’s obvious that Fitzpatrick’s value goes up as well.  He will be entering the 2nd year in this system, he knows his receivers well, and he is getting a better all around running back than he had last year.

I wouldn’t take him as my #1 starter, but Fitzpatrick could be a great addition to your team as a #2, especially if you can pair him with Tom Brady.
