10 things you forgot about the Los Angeles Rams
The Rams are back in Los Angeles! The Rams are back in Los Angeles!
All is right with the football world in my eyes, now I’m not a Rams fan but the Rams never really belonged in St. Louis. Despite their success in the early 2000’s, to me they always felt like they were someone else’s team.
The Rams always belonged in L.A., from the “Fearsome Foursome” to Eric Dickerson to Jerome Bettis, the Rams in Los Angeles always seemed to have a special fit.
But the Rams haven’t been in L.A. in since 1994 so there’s plenty of you out there who don’t know much about the Rams, this is why I’m here. You’re welcome.
10. Owners of the Rams and Colts swapped teams
You ever have that moment where you and one of your friends decided that you had SO much money that you traded teams just for the heck of it? Yeah, I didn’t think you did.
Well in July of 1972, Baltimore Colts owner Carroll Rosenbloom and new Rams owner Jim Irsay decided to swap teams with Irsay getting the Colts and Rosenbloom getting the Rams. The purchase of the Rams was a boon for Rosenbloom who didn’t have to pay any capital gains tax. The move is one of the most unprecedented actions in NFL history and really changed the course of two NFL franchises.
The Colts were never the same and the leadership of the Rams became one of the rockiest in all of American sports.
