Identifying the top high salary and value catcher plays from around Major League Baseball for your July 28 DraftKings lineup.

Our goal is to help you win DraftKings contests with consistently strong lineups. To accomplish that, we’ll be highlighting some higher salary players worth paying up for, and some value picks that will help you save salary in key areas. These picks are specifically for DraftKings lineups, so all references to prices and fantasy points are based on DK figures.

As always, be sure to double-check final MLB lineups and monitor weather situations before locking in your DFS lineups.

High Salary

Cameron Rupp, Phillies (3,500): Short slates can often be unkind to the catcher position, and Thursday is no different. Rupp is an interesting option on a day without many surefire backstop plays. Rupp draws a matchup with Atlanta Braves right-hander Matt Wisler (4-10, 4.92 ERA), against whom he is 3-for-5 with a double and home run in his career.

Buster Posey, Giants (3,300): When in doubt, start Posey. OK, that’s not a hard-and-fast rule, but Posey always feels like a safe play at catcher. On Thursday, he can be had for a reasonable price in a matchup with Washington Nationals righty Tanner Roark (9-6, 3.05 ERA), against whom he is 3-for-6 with a double in his career. Posey feels like the obvious catcher play on Thursday.

High Value

Matt Wieters, Orioles (3,100): Wieters has had a quiet month of July, as he’s hitting just .137 with a single RBI. This could be a solid time to buy low on him, as he draws a matchup Thursday with Minnesota Twins right-hander Kyle Gibson (3-6, 4.67 ERA). Wieters is 2-for-7 in his career against Gibson, but Baltimore’s expected run total (4.8) is one of the highest on Thursday’s slate.

Sandy Leon, Red Sox (2,900): We simply love Leon as a value play. He’s not quite as a hot as he was in June and early July, but he’s still an underrated hitter in Boston’s potent lineup. To get that combination for less than 3,000 is a steal. Boston’s expected run total (5.2) is also the highest on the board Thursday.
