DraftKings Early MLB Picks For July 28

There are only two afternoon games, but three of the four pitchers cost more than $8,500. We have to find a bargain somewhere. Let’s hit the stats!

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players.

Best Bet:

Jacob deGrom ($10,300): Usually on a short slate, we are left grasping at straws for a true ace. Today we have one. deGrom could be 100% owned. The Rockies are a miserable 6-62(.097) with 16 strikeouts against him in his career. Never mind the two homers and three runs, this kind of domination will have him flirting with 30 DraftKings points. At least. One top of that, one of the home runs was hit by Gerardo Parra, who is still on the disabled list.

Honorable Mention:

Robbie Ray ($9,100): The current Brewers are only 1-13(.077) against Ray, but that only covers three players. Not like the Brewers offense is particularly threatening anyway, but Jonathan Lucroy is the subject of many a trade rumor. So is Ryan Braun. This offense could get a lot more toothless at any second. If that happens, Ray may just vault to the top of this list.

Dark Horses:

The other two pitchers, Zach Davies and Tyler Anderson, have never faced their opponents. Anderson’s chance at a win takes a huge hit going up against deGrom. Also, Anderson’s ERA is a little worse on the road, and he still hasn’t won a road game. Meanwhile, Davies has pitched better at home, and righties are hitting just .213 against him this year. If Jake Lamb is still out, this lines up well for Davies.

Carlos Gonzalez ($3,800) is immune to the dominance of deGrom. CarGo is 2-4 with two walks, a double, and a solo homer against deGrom.

Chris Carter ($3,700) is only 1-5 against Robbie Ray, but he has two walks and a two run single. Carter doesn’t have a well pronounced split like most power hitters, but he strikes out significantly less against lefties. If the ball in is play, good things can happen

Assuming that Lucroy and Braun haven’t been jettisoned out of town before game time, Ray has given up 12 home runs to right handed batters. I wouldn’t mind using either of them.

Tyler Anderson has been tough on lefties and serviceable against righties, but Yoenis Cespedes may still be in play here is you are looking for a homer. And really, on this small of a slate, we all are.
