Kevin Durant has come out and shot down the rumors that he was promising to stay with the Thunder

The entire sports world is still talking about the move that Kevin Durant made in joining the vaunted Golden State Warriors, and this past week one of the hot topics was a report in which allegedly Durant told former teammate and friend Russell Westbrook that he was staying with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Needless to say, if that is true, it sort of paints Durant in a bad light.

Well, he’s more that ready to make sure that his image doesn’t take more of a hit.

In an interview with The Vertical, Durant came right out and said that him promising to return to OKC at least for another year is something that never took place.

“It’s false,” Durant told The Vertical. “I didn’t say that – words about me telling Russell or Nick that I would stay or leave never came out of my mouth. We met as teammates, but no promises came out of it. In this day and age, I can’t control anything people claim out there. Someone can go out and say something random right now, and people will believe it.

“I never told Russell or Nick [Collison], ‘All right, guys, I’m coming back to the Thunder’ – and then a week later, I decide not to. Never happened. I don’t operate like that. I heard people say that story, but it’s not the truth.”

Now generally, NBA players will stay away from the rumor mill, but again, this was a report that did some damage to his character and credibility. With that being the case, you can’t really blame KD for coming right out and making sure everyone knew his side of the story.

Whatever the case really is, that first Warriors vs. Thunder game this NBA season cannot come fast enough.
