Training camp injuries are bound to happen. Let’s just hope this one isn’t too bad.

It’s almost inevitable that someone gets hurt at training camp. This time, let’s hope it isn’t serious for rookie outside linebacker Leonard Floyd of the Chicago Bears.

There’s no way to be able to tell what’s going on with Floyd. It could just be dehydration, or it could be something infinitely more serious. No matter what, losing Floyd for any amount of time will be a moderately big blow. Floyd was supposed to compete with names like Lamarr Houston, Willie Young, and Pernell McPhee, who all shown at times last season but failed to reach consistency. Houston and Young came on strong towards the end of the year, and Houston lead the team in sacks, but the rough beginning to the year showed that the Bears still have growing pains in their relatively new 3-4 defense.

If Floyd is seriously injured, it will affect the Bears. He was their first-round draft pick out of Georgia in 2016, and was slated to at least provide some depth for the Bears’ thin outside linebacker corps. The full details of Floyd’s injury haven’t been released yet, so it could just be an episode of dehydration or another minor injury, but the cart doesn’t inspire feelings of confidence.

The Bears liked Floyd so much, or needed an outside linebacker so badly, that they traded up two spots in the first round to pick him up. If the Bears are truly that desperate for an OLB, this injury could be devastating.
