The Baltimore Orioles are trying very hard to acquire starting pitcher Andrew Cashner from the San Diego Padres, according to Ken Rosenthal.

While the Baltimore Orioles currently lead the American League East Division, they are the contender who needs pitching the most. After losing out on outfielder Melvin Upton Jr., the Orioles have turned their attention to starting pitcher Andrew Cashner, according to Ken Rosenthal.

Rosenthal notes that the Orioles likely aren’t the front-runners, as the Miami Marlins and Texas Rangers are both very interested in acquiring him as well. Cashner has had a very rough season and has seen his trade value plummet. He has an ERA of 4.76 in 2016 and has seen his ERA rise more than two runs since 2014.

Cashner would likely help the Orioles. Their rotation has been terrible for most of the season, though they have been doing much better as of late. He would likely serve as a bottom of the rotation starter or as a swingman out of the bullpen. The Orioles could be getting a huge bargain if they can get him back to his 2014 form. It likely wouldn’t cost too much to acquire Cashner considering his struggles. Then again, the pitching market is very weak so the Padres might still be able to get a decent haul for him.

In 16 games this season, Cashner has pitched 79 1/3 innings with 67 strikeouts and 30 walks. He has also allowed 13 home runs and has a 1.387 WHIP. Cashner has a 4-7 record and has a career ERA of 3.73.
