A title contender team in the league may have plans to “poach” Stephen Curry from the Golden State Warriors if things don’t work out with him and new teammate Kevin Durant there.
The Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant era has yet to officially begin in the NBA but rumors are already swirling on one of them leaving the “Big Four” of Golden State. Of course, that is if the Warriors don’t succeed with Curry, Durant, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green playing in blue and gold jerseys.
In an Instagram clip via Bleacher Report, NBA insider, writer and talk show host Ric Bucher talks about how the rest of the league is all hoping that Durant and Curry’s chemistry is “poisonous,” but one of the teams has more serious reasons for it.
Bucher says that one unnamed team “sees KD taking big shots that were once Curry’s domain.” For that reason, a certain team will try to “poach” Curry from his longtime team in hopes of bringing him to their own squad.
That has raised a lot of speculation over which team that might be. The term “title contender” would generally refer to teams that seem closer to winning a championship than others at the moment. Looking at which teams feature star guards may also help with the speculation.

While the Cleveland Cavaliers are recent champions, they are going to be considered contenders to win once again. However, it might seem odd to bring in Curry to a team that features a talented point guard in Kyrie Irving, and another big-shot taker in LeBron James.
The Spurs may be the most fitting spec pick. Tony Parker isn’t getting any younger and while Kawhi Leonard is talented, he doesn’t have that same deadly scoring ability that Curry does. Having a legendary championship coach like Gregg Popovich at the helm would certainly help too. The Spurs’ current system could be the snag as it doesn’t seem like one for Curry.
A few other teams to consider are the Los Angeles Clippers and New York Knicks. Both have All-Star or former All-Star point guards already. However, one would have to believe that having not won any championships in recent history could be a reason to bring in Curry and possibly switch up their roster. The uptempo and high-scoring style of the Clippers seems to fit best.
Of course, some people may jokingly think that the Oklahoma City Thunder are the mystery team that will try to lure Curry from Golden State to OKC in some sort of NBA revenge plot. However, it seems unlikely as long as the Thunder have Russell Westbrook suiting up.
