Manchester United are finalizing a deal with Paul Pogba after agreeing to pay his agent’s fee.
The long transfer saga surrounding Paul Pogba to Manchester United is about to come to an end. According to The Guardian, the prodigal son will be returning to Old Trafford, with contracts and documents being the only thing left to discuss.
Even though it was widely speculated that it would cost £100 million to get Pogba to Manchester United, they ended up settling on a transfer fee of £93 million instead. However, Pogba’s agent, Mino Raiola, demanded to be paid £20 million, which was partly why the transfer was held up for so long. Former Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson has cited his conflict with Mino Raiola as one of the reasons that he let go of Pogba.
But with this signing, Paul Pogba has become the most expensive signing in the history of the Premier League, shattering the last record set by United when they bought Angel di Maria for £59.7 million. There could be more money where that came from once add-ons are brought into the equation. Preliminary talks have United offering Pogba €10m while Juventus want an extra €5m if Pogba extends his contract.
With a price tag that enormous, the pressure will be on Manchester United and Paul Pogba to prove that he was worth all of the money. He has blossomed into one of the best midfielders in the world over the past few years, and has won everything at the domestic level for Juventus. Now that he’s joining forces with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Jose Mourinho, there’s little evidence to suggest that he won’t shine at the Premier League level.
