47. Ryan Lochte, Swimming.

While grossly overshadowed by fellow Team USA swimmer Michael Phelps for the bulk of his Olympic career, Ryan Lochte stands today as one of the sport’s most decorated athletes, having won 11 medals over three Olympic Games (in 2004, 2008, and 2012).

Now preparing for a fourth go-round in Rio, Lochte has won five golds (in the the 4x200m free in Athens, the 200m back and 4×2000 free in Beijing, and 400m individual medley and 4x200m free in London), three silvers, and three bronzes to date.

Now 32, Lochte has been one of most accomplished swimmers America has ever produced — a feat made all the more impressive by the fact that his prime coincided with that of the most decorated athlete in Olympic history.

Can Lochte  add to his medal collection in what will likely be his final Olympics? Stay tuned.
