DraftKings daily picks: Fantasy baseball first base-July 29
Identifying the top high salary and value first baseman plays from around Major League Baseball for your July 29 DraftKings lineup.
Our goal is to help you win DraftKings contests with consistently strong lineups. To accomplish that, we’ll be highlighting some higher salary players worth paying up for, and some value picks that will help you save salary in key areas. These picks are specifically for DraftKings lineups, so all references to prices and fantasy points are based on DK figures.
As always, be sure to double-check final MLB lineups and monitor weather situations before locking in your DFS lineups.
High Salary
David Ortiz, Red Sox (5,600): “Big Papi” is never going to come cheap, but he’s almost always worth paying up for, especially when he draws matchups with struggling right-handed pitchers. On Friday, Ortiz and the Red Sox will face Los Angeles Angeles righty Tim Lincecum (2-4, 8.70 ERA). Ortiz is hitting .332 with an absurd .710 slugging percentage against righties this season.
Joey Votto, Reds (5,400): Votto’s lack of power, relative to other slugging first basemen, makes him a player rarely worth paying up for. Friday is one of those exceptions. His career numbers against San Diego Padres right-hander Edwin Jackson (1-1, 4.30 ERA) are simply too good to ignore. Votto is 9-for-22 (.409) with four doubles and two home runs against Jackson.
High Value
Mitch Moreland, Rangers (3,700): Moreland is red-hot, having earned tallied four hits (three home runs) over his last eight at-bats. There’s reason to think he could keep it going Friday against Kansas City Royals right-hander Edinson Volquez (8-8, 4.56 ERA), against whom Moreland is 3-for-5 with a home run in his career.
Eric Hosmer, Royals (3,600): The 2016 All-Star Game Most Valuable Player is in the midst of a quiet stretch, having gone hitless three straight games. He’s still hitting an even .300 against right-handers this season, and is 2-for-7 with a double in his career against Texas Rangers righty A.J. Griffin (3-1, 4.06 ERA). He’s worth some GPP consideration at least.
