DraftKings MLB Picks For July 29

14 of the 15 games are in the main tournament. The only exception is the Cubs hosting the Mariners at Wrigley for an afternoon game. Only three pitchers are over $10,000, but there are 11 more between $8,000 and $9,900. Can you afford two of them? If so, who should you target? Let’s check out the past stats.

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players.

Jose Urena has never started a game against the Cardinals, but they are just 2-11 against him in relief. The hits were both singles by Yadier Molina. Still, after seeing what the Cards did to Jose Fernandez last night, I think I’m staying away from this one.

Steven Matz has never faced the Rockies. The Rockies offense lacks a lot of punch at sea level, and most of the damage is done by their left handed hitters. This looks like a solid matchup for Matz.

Steven Brault pitched pretty well in his debut against the Cardinals back on July 5th. He gave up one run on four hits and two walks while striking out five in four innings. Today, he gets a much more favorable matchup against the Brewers. With the possibility of Ryan Braun being out again and the trade winds swirling around Jonathan Lucroy, Brault could be a sneaky source of points at a low price.

Tyrell Jenkins was solid in his first start against the Phillies on July 6. He gave up one run on four hits and a walk in 4.2 innings, but struck out only one batter. He would likely be allowed to go deeper this time if he pitches well, but the lack of strikeouts leaves no margin for error.

Zach Godley has never started a game against the Dodgers, and with a 5.88 ERA on the year, you probably don’t want to use him here. Especially with so many other options available.

Best Bets:

Marco Estrada ($10,700): Estrada has held his own against the Orioles so far. They are only hitting .189 off of Estrada in 122 at bats, but they have smacked nine home runs. The good news? They have struck out 38 times. Estrada gave up three runs in six innings while striking out eight against the O’s back on June 10th. Is that enough production for his price tag? You will have to be the judge of that.

Mike Leake ($7,600): Leake has pitched very well against the Marlins in his career. They are only hitting .205 off of him in 122 at bats with three homers and only six runs. The 28 strikeouts is a solid total as well. Leake’s ERA is two thirds of a run lower on the road. Want another reason to use him? Leake is 5-1 with a 1.33 ERA in his career against the Marlins.

Honorable Mention:

Kevin Gausman ($9,100): Gausman has pitched very well against the Blue Jays so far in his career. The Jays are only hitting .240 off of Gausman in 75 at bats with only two homers and six runs scored while striking out 20 times. You are playing with fire a little bit when using a starter against an offense like the Jays, but the stats support it. Gausman also sports a respectable 3.60 ERA in three starts at Rogers Centre.

Junior Guerra ($8,400): Guerra gave up just three hits in six innings to the Pirates on July 19th while striking out six, but he also gave up two runs. Still, he came away with 17.9 DraftKings points, which is reasonable for his price. If he can get some run support, he may even get the extra four points for the win.

Dark Horse:

Edinson Volquez ($6,100): On the surface, this looks awful. The Rangers are hitting a modest .271, but they have five homers and 20 RBI in just 107 at bats. Dig a little deeper though, and you will realize that most of the damage is done by players on the DL. Shin-Soo Choo, Prince Fielder, and Josh Hamilton are a combined 10-37 with two homers and 11 RBI. The rest of the team is hitting .271, but they only have three homers and eight RBI with 13 strikeouts in 70 at bats. That makes him a solid option.

Brandon Finnegan ($5,800): The current Padres lineup is just 2-19 against Finnegan with one RBI. Melvin Upton Jr. had two against him about a month ago, but Upton is now in Toronto. Finnegan also put up five strikeouts in those 19 batters. He is an interesting punt option tonight.

You have heard our FanDuel experts Matt Rogers and Brian Tulloch talk about “stacking” pieces of a lineup against certain pitchers. Here are the stacks that could work well on DraftKings today, based on past statistics.

Not many players have hit Max Scherzer well, let alone an entire team, but the Giants are hitting .292 with five homers and 16 RBI against Scherzer in just 65 at bats! Gregor Blanco ($) is 4-7 with a walk, two doubles, and two RBI. Brandon Crawford ($) is 2-3 with a walk, a double, a homer, and three RBI against Scherzer. Denard Span ($) is 5-19(.263)  with a walk, a double, a triple, a homer, and four RBI against Scherzer. At least Scherzer wont have to deal with Matt Duffy and Hunter Pence. Combined, they are 4-12 with two homers and four RBI.

Brian McCann ($3,200) 12-23(.522) with two walks, three doubles, a triple, three homers, and ten RBI off of Jake Odorizzi. Mark Teixeira ($2,800) is 3-10 with a walk, a double, a triple, a homer, and three RBI off Odorizzi. Alex Rodriguez ($3,400) is only 2-12 off of Odorizzi, but both of the hits are home runs. Brett Gardner ($3,500) is only 4-21(.190) against Odorizzi, but he has two walks, a homer, and three RBI. Starlin Castro ($3,000) is 2-5 with a homer and two RBI against Odorizzi.

The Twins hit lefties well, and Jose Quintana is no exception. Brian Dozier ($4,000) is only 9-40(.225), but he has three walks, a double, four homers, and nine RBI. Dozier homered off of him twice back on June 28th. Joe Mauer ($3,200) hits everyone pretty well. He is 11-34(.324) with three walks, two homers, and five RBI against Quintana. Eddie Rosario ($3,200) is 3-8 with a walk and as many RBI as hits off Quintana. Kennys Vargas ($3,200) is 3-8, but all of the hits are singles. He has driven in a run though.

Jeff Samardzija has given up 17 runs to the Nationals in only 101 at bats. You know there is a stack here! Danny Espinosa ($2,700) is 3-10 with a double and three RBI. Chris Heisey ($2,600) could be a sneaky play if he is in the lineup. Heisey is 4-8 with a pair of RBI against Samardzija. Daniel Murphy ($5,400) is 5-9 with a double, a homer, and three RBI. Wilson Ramos ($3,900) is 4-11 with two solo homers against Samardzija. Jayson Werth ($3,500) is only 4-20, but he has a walk, a homer, and five driven in.

Ryan Flaherty ($2,600) is 3-9 against Marco Estrada with two walks, to homers, and five RBI. Chris Davis ($3,800) is only 2-10, but he has walked seven times and both hits are home runs with four RBI. Jonathan Schoop ($3,400) is 3-11 with two solo homers against Estrada. Manny Machado, Mark Trumbo, and Pedro Alvarez have all gone deep against Estrada as well, but they are a combined 7-45 against Estrada.

The Angels’ big three are worth stacking against Rick Porcello tonight. Kole Calhoun ($3,300) is 5-8 with a walk, two homers, and three RBI off of Porcello. Mike Trout ($5,000) is 6-21(.286) with two walks, a homer, and seven RBI. Albert Pujols ($3,700) is 6-19(.316) with two doubles, a homer, and three driven in.

Stacking White Sox could be good for you too. The Sox are hitting an impressive .359 against Ricky Nolasco in his career. Jose Abreu ($4,000) is 5-14(.357) with a double, two homers, and three RBI. Melky Cabrera ($4,000) is 11-25(.440) with two doubles, a homer, and four RBI off Nolasco. Adam Eaton ($4,400) is 6-21(.286) with a triple and two RBI. Dioner Navarro ($2,600) is 8-21(.381) with three doubles, a homer, and four RBI against Nolasco. Tyler Saladino ($3,700) is 3-5 wtih a homer and two RBI. J.B. Shuck ($3,100) is 3-6 with a RBI. Avisail Garcia ($3,000) is 4-9 with two walks, and two RBI. It seems like we have gone though almost all of the Sox starting nine except Brett Lawrie and Todd Frazier. Lowrie is 6-13 with a homer and four RBI, but is in the DL. Frazier is only 2-12, but he does have a solo homer off of Nolasco.

The Diamondbacks sure hope that Jake Lamb ($4,300) can return tonight. He is 5-7 with a walk, two doubles, a homer, and three RBI against Kenta Maeda this year. Brandon Drury ($3,100) is 1-2 with a double and two RBI. Michael Bourn ($3,300) is 3-5 with a double and a RBI. The Snakes haven’t had any trouble with the Japanese import so far.

Aaron Hill ($3,300) is 11-22 with five walks, four doubles, and four RBI against Tim Lincecum. David Ortiz ($5,600) is only 1-5, but the hit is a solo homer. Hanley Ramirez ($4,000) is 9-27 with a walk, a double, and five RBI off of Lincecum. At least Lincecum doesn’t have to face Chris Young, who has homered off of him twice. Honestly, I would recommend anyone in a Red Sox uniform tonight. Lincecum’s WHIP stands where his ERA used to be (2.30), and his ERA is a bloated 8.70 in six starts. Houston beat him up for eight runs in just 1.1 innings in his last start. Start any Red Sox hitter with confidence!

Jarrod Saltalamacchia ($3,200) is 2-3 with a double, a homer, and two RBI against Collin McHugh. Justin Upton ($) has also homered off of McHugh, but it is his only hit in eight at bats.

Kevin Kiermaier ($3,000) is 3-5 with a triple, a homer, and two RBI against Ivan Nova. Evan Longoria ($4,300) is 10-36(.278) with three walks, a double, three homers, and seven RBI against Nova.

Colby Rasmus ($3,300) ended his dreadful slump on Wednesday night. It may get even farther from memory tonight against Matt Boyd. Rasmus has faced him just twice. The end result was two home runs.

Billy Butler ($3,200) is 4-11 with a walk, two doubles, and three RBI against Trevor Bauer. Yonder Alonso ($2,800) only has one hit in four at bats, but it is a two run homer.

A.J. Griffin has nightmares about Alex Gordon ($3,900). Gordon is 6-7 with a walk, a double, a homer, and two RBI against him. Kendrys Morales ($3,300) is 3-8 with three walks and a solo homer against Griffin.

Chris Johnson ($2,200) is 5-20 with two walks, a double, two homers, and three RBI against Mike Leake. Giancarlo Stanton ($4,300) is only 2-12, but he has a walk and a solo homer off Leake.

Every Red that has faced Edwin Jackson has driven in a run off of him (six players). Most notable are Billy Hamilton ($4,500) and Joey Votto ($5,400). Hamilton is 4-12 with two walks, and a RBI. Votto is 9-22(.409) with three walks, four doubles, two homers, and three driven in.

Mitch Moreland ($3,700) is 3-5 with two walks, a homer, and two RBI against Edinson Volquez.

Gordon Beckham ($2,700) has driven in all three runs for the Braves against Vincent Velaquez. The bad news? He has only one hit (a double) in five at bats.

Asdrubal Cabera ($3,000) is 2-7 with two walks and a solo homer against Tyler Chatwood. Curtis Granderson ($3,900) is 1-3 with a two run homer. Yoenis Cespedes ($4,400) is 1-3 with a solo shot off Chatwood, but it is likely he wont be able to start the game. That makes him a huge risk.

Darwin Barney ($2,600) is 4-6 with a solo homer against Kevin Gausman.
