Joey Bosa will not be reporting to San Diego Chargers training camp because he still has not signed his rookie contract.

The San Diego Chargers had hoped to sign third overall pick Joey Bosa before training camp started. However, the two sides have still not agreed on Bosa’s rookie contract, citing differences in bonus payments and offsetting language.

It remains to be seen exactly when Bosa will be on the field. Bosa likely won’t attend training camp until his rookie deal is signed. He is one of the two first round picks who has not signed his rookie deal yet, the other one being San Francisco 49ers guard Joshua Garnett. Garnett was the 28th-overall pick.

Bosa likely wants to top Jalen Ramsey’s deal of four years, $23.9 million and probably wants something that compares to the contracts that Carson Wentz and Jared Goff received as the first two picks of the 2016 NFL Draft.

This isn’t a good look for either Bosa or the Chargers. Both sides need to agree to a deal as soon as possible. Bosa would love to get on the field and start preparing for the 2016 season. The Chargers would love nothing more than to get Bosa on the field. Expect a deal to be worked out fairly soon because both parties would greatly benefit from getting Bosa on the field.

Bosa was drafted out of Ohio State University, where he was a two-time All-American, a two-time All-Big Ten member, and was the 2014 Nagurski–Woodson Defensive Player of the Year.
