10. Bismack Biyombo — Orlando Magic

After a solid 2015-16 regular season with the Toronto Raptors, it only stood to reason that a young, hyper-athletic center like Bismack Biyombo was going to see some big money in NBA free agency and from numerous sources around the league. However, that potential money and big contract only grew as Biyombo emerged as a dominant force playing through the Eastern Conference bracket of the NBA Playoffs. He ultimately parlayed that performance into a huge deal with the Orlando Magic.

While that’s great for Biyombo, a hard-working player cashing out on that work and a stellar year with the Raptors, it’s hard to see how that fully makes sense for the Magic in virtually any regard. It was odd enough when the Magic traded for Serge Ibaka to crowd their frontcourt that already included Nikola Vucevic and Aaron Gordon, but then throwing Biyombo into the fold with the kind of cap figure that he has only makes it more crowded and congested.

And because it doesn’t really make sense for the Magic, you could say that it doesn’t make sense for Biyombo as well. If he’s coming into a situation where he’s only going to be taking minutes away from other guys, that means his minutes are in jeopardy of being taken away as well. So while the money might be enormous and great for him to get, the playing time and role that he’s about to see in Orlando might be far less ideal.
