When are the College Football Playoff rankings released?
The most important Tuesdays of the calendar year are when the College Football Playoff rankings are unveiled to the public. When are the dates for the rankings for the 2016-17 season?
One of the most important days in college football is when the first edition of the College Football Playoff rankings are released for the first time.
On Nov. 3 of last year, Clemson, LSU, Ohio State and Alabama made the first cut of teams in the College Football Playoff in the rankings. By the end of the season, Clemson and Alabama made the final cut of teams, along with Big Ten champion Michigan State and Big XII champion Oklahoma on Dec. 6.
Before they crashed into each other in a classic title game last January after their semifinal wins, Clemson and Alabama both were in the top four of the rankings each of the six weeks the rankings were released last season. The two teams joined the 2014 Florida State Seminoles as the only teams to be in the top four of the rankings in all six weeks.
When are the rankings scheduled to be released for the 2016-17 college football season? The first day of rankings is set for Nov. 1, 2016, while the last day is scheduled for Dec. 4, 2016, when the four teams that will participate in the 2017 College Football Playoff are announced.
Here’s the full slate of ranking release dates:
- November 1
- November 8
- November 15
- November 22
- November 29
- December 4 (CFB Playoff Semifinal teams announced)
For the College Football Playoff this season, the semifinal games will be played Glendale, AZ (Fiesta Bowl) and Atlanta, GA (Peach Bowl) and the National Championship Game will be played on Jan. 9, 2017 on ESPN in Tampa, FL at Raymond James Stadium; the home of the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
