The horrific act that took place on July 7 in Dallas, Texas are still very much burned in the minds of Americans everywhere. On Saturday, Dallas’ NFL football team began their training camp, and the organization made sure to honor the fallen. In a touching tribute, the team walked out onto the field arm-in-arm with owner Jerry Jones, Dallas Police Chief David Brown, and family members from four of the five victims of the attack.

Chief Brown spoke to the team, and expressed to them how big of a role they play in society.
“I talked about responsibility and playing a role in our society as pro athletes, to have a voice in the conversation about race, to have a voice in the conversation about communities and police departments and police-involved shootings,” Brown said. “I think that people need to hear, from all parts of society, a discussion on race.”
Throughout the 2016 NFL season, the Cowboys will also wear a decal on the back of their helmet to show solidarity with the police force. The sticker reads “Arm in Arm,” and will be a symbol for the entire world to see this season.

The idea was actually the brainchild of Cowboys tight end Jason Witten, who knew he wanted to do something special to honor the victims. He reached out to Cowboys executive vice president Charlotte Jones Anderson, and his idea of walking out arm-in-arm, as well as the stickers was born.
The Cowboys have long been considered “America’s Team,” and on Saturday, that was definitely the case. For a franchise who is usually in the news for the wrong reasons, this wonderful act will never be forgotten.
