The Baltimore Orioles have reportedly agreed to a trade for Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Wade Miley, pending a physical.
The Baltimore Orioles have been searching for a rotation upgrade, preferably one who is a left handed pitcher since the Orioles have five right-handed starters. According to Jon Heyman, they have found their man. The Orioles have reportedly acquired Wade Miley from the Seattle Mariners, pending review of physicals.
Of course, anything involving the Orioles and physicals is not a foregone conclusion. Granted, a failed physical hasn’t exactly hurt the Orioles. Losing out on Grant Balfour in 2013 wound up being quite possibly the best thing that could have happened to the Orioles. But still, an Orioles physical appears to be a tough thing to pass these days. No word yet on the return, but it’s likely minimal.
Wade Miley has some experience in the American League East, as he pitched for the Red Sox in 2014. Miley is an upgrade over Ubaldo Jimenez and Vance Worley at this point, but if the Orioles want to win the World Series, they will have to do more than just trade for Miley. According to Ken Rosenthal, the Orioles will give up left handed pitching prospect Ariel Miranda.

Miranda has pitched in one game for the O’s this season and has a 3.93 ERA with the Norfolk Tides, the Orioles’ AAA affiliate. The Orioles did well to get Miley for a very reasonable price, something that is not a given in this thin pitching market. They have enough assets to possibly acquire another pitcher tomorrow.
