Arguably the most talked about name on the MLB rumor mill has been Jonathan Lucroy. The Milwaukee Brewers catcher has been floating around in trade discussions throughout July, and seems destined to be dealt.
Lucroy was supposed to be moved on Saturday to the Cleveland Indians. However, he exercised his no-trade clause, as the Indians were one of the select teams on it. The Brewers would have received four prospects in return.
So, with that deal off, other teams are starting to work back into the mix. According to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports and MLB Network, the Texas Rangers are “strongly in the mix” for Lucroy.
The Rangers have struggled at the catcher position in 2016, so the need is there. They have relied on the likes of Robinson Chirinos, Bobby Wilson, and Bryan Holaday to fill in this spot. None of them are batting over .250.
Texas is known for their deep farm system, so something may be able to get done. Who the Brewers would ask for remains to be seen. It could be any of outfielder Lewis Brinson, second baseman Andy Ibanez, or pitcher Dillon Tate, among others.
So, it still seems that Jonathan Lucroy may be dealt by Monday. We’ll see what Milwaukee can get for him after plans took a left turn.
