A potentially scary moment happened on Sunday during the New York Giants’ first week of 2016 NFL training camp. Star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. had to be carted off the field after an on-field collision with cornerback Janoris Jenkins.
Beckham is arguably the most valuable player on the Giants entering 2016 and any long-term injury to their star wideout would be crippling to their success on the gridiron this fall. Fortunately for Beckham and the Giants, it seems that his injury suffered on Sunday should only keep him out for a few days.
Giants head coach Ben McAdoo spoke to the media after Sunday’s practice, stating that “Odell got cleated and has a cut or two. He’s probably going to be sore for a couple of days.”
While the Giants don’t hold practice on Monday, August 1st in their training camp, there is a good chance that Beckham won’t see the field for at least a few days. New York needs to side with precaution in regards to its talented wide receiver.
Should he need stitches to suture the gash on his leg, expect Beckham to be out for maybe a week or so, just to let him heal. If he doesn’t need stitches, Beckham could return mid-week, maybe even Wednesday if he can convince McAdoo that he’s good to go for practice.
The Giants faithful have to feel relieved that Beckham won’t miss any extended time with the minor injury he suffered during Sunday’s training camp practice. He’ll likely be out maybe a few days, but Beckham should be ready to go during the preseason.
