5. Philadelphia Phillies

The Philadelphia Phillies were involved in many trade rumors leading up to the non-waiver deadline on Monday. The players of note involved in rumors included pitchers Vincent Velasquez and Jeremy Hellickson.

With the success both pitchers were having and the fact that it would take a lot for any team to land either one of them, the Phillies were not able to make a move. The good news for the Phillies is that they can use the month of August to explore what other deals are out there to help the team add more youth to the roster.

The Phillies were projected to be one of the worst teams in baseball coming into the season, and while they haven’t been anything special, they have sort of performed above expectations and have gotten some production out of guys that has come as a surprise.

They know where they stand now, and they should fully utilize this next month to improving the roster for the future and sending off some veteran pieces to other teams.

The likes of their star pitchers are unlikely to get moved through waiver trades, but they can and should explore all other avenues if necessary.
