DraftKings MLB: Top Bargain plays for August 1st

Finding value can be the ever so elusive, “Holy Grail.” Making cap room for pitchers and big bats can make all the difference in a lineup. With a little elbow grease in the research department, I’m hoping to provide a handful of players that could provide critical salary relief for tonight’s DraftKings MLB slate.

Tonight’s slate offers us eight games to pull from. Totals for tonight are fairly low with no teams expected to score more than 5 runs. Keep in mind, the Toronto vs. Houston game is still without a total or a moneyline. Cleveland has some great batters to choose from tonight, but for a price. Here is who you should be considering when filling out your lineups.

Sandy Leon – BOS (C) – $2600

Leon is simply too cheap in this spot. Leon, a switcher hitter, hits much betters against lefties with a .452 wOBA and .222 ISO split. His power provides upside for a discounted price.

Clint Robinson – WSH (1B) – $3000

Washington has one of the higher team totals at roughly 4.8 runs. If Robinson is batting in the top 6, he’ll be worth a look. Robinson (L) will benefit from being on the good side of a lefty vs. righty match up.

Trea Turner – WSH (2B/OF) – $3600

While Turner is a righty, the same logic listed for Clint Robinson applies to Turner. Turners value comes from his ability to get on base and leading off for the Nats. Turner also comes with great stolen base upside.

Alexi Amarista – SD (2B/SS) – $2500

Amarista (L) will face Nelson (R) tonight. This game isn’t projected to be high scoring, but if Amarista draws a spot in the 1 or 2 hole, he’ll provide good value for the price.

Franklin Gutierrez – SEA (OF) – $3600

Look for Gutierrez (L) to get on base tonight as he faces Rodriguez, a righty. Gutierrez has impressive batted ball stats, with a hard hit percentage of 46% of the past 12 months. If he’s batting in the top 3 spots, he’ll bring value.
