The Toronto Blue Jays have reportedly acquired Houston Astros starting pitcher Scott Feldman at the 2016 MLB Trade Deadline.

One of the most aggressive teams at the 2016 MLB Trade Deadline is the Toronto Blue Jays. They desperately looked to upgrade their pitching. While they got Melvin Upton, Jr. from the San Diego Padres and acquired Jason Grilli from the Atlanta Braves (as well as Joaquin Benoit from the Seattle Mariners), they struck out in trying to acquire one of the big name starting pitchers. They did, however, acquire Scott Feldman from the Houston Astros.

In exchange, the Blue Jays are giving up Guadalupe Chavez, a promising 18 year old pitcher who has a 1.69 ERA in Rookie League in 2016. Feldman is expected to serve as a spot starter, much like Jesse Chavez, who the Jays traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers. With Aaron Sanchez potentially going to the bullpen, Feldman could be playing a role in the Jays rotation.

Feldman has a 2.90 ERA with the Astros this season. He has started five games and appeared in 29 total. In 62 innings, he has 42 strikeouts and 13 walks. His FIP of 4.23 is a bit concerning, but the Jays won’t be relying on him to be a top of the line starter. He should be fine in a bottom of the rotation or swingman role.
