Jon Niese and Antonio Bastardo go back to their old teams
Last year Jon Niese was on the Mets and Antonio Bastardo was on the Pirates. After both have struggled to adjust to their new homes, the teams have decided to swap the players back where they were.

Niese has a career era of 4.00, and that was inflated by a poor 4.91 this season in Pittsburgh. He had a problem giving up home runs this season and had been bumped from the bullpen recently.

Bastardo has a career 3.73 era that has been inflated by his rough 4.74 eras in 43 innings with the Mets. The home runs seem to be the killer for Bastardo this year as well, as he has given up 1.65 per nine innings. Last year, Bastardo only gave up 0.65 for the Pirates and had a 2.98 era.

The Pirates were using Niese out of the bullpen and already know the success they have had with Bastardo in the same role. With Matt Harvey out the Mets will be looking for innings eaters in the later summer, and used Niese out of that role in the past two seasons. A change of scenery was bad for both sides last year so maybe both players can forget this season and remember the good days back in their old club house
