The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series enters its final five races before the Round of 16 begins on October 8 in Charlotte and this Sunday it begins on the road course at Watkins Glen International in upstate New York.
After last week’s Pennsylvania 400, no driver has clinched a spot in the Chase while one other, Chris Buescher, is looking to find his way in despite winning at Pocono. He is currently in 31st place and has five races to move up at least one to qualify.
In 2015, road course expert A. J. Allmendinger won the pole and will try to repeat in the No. 47 Kroger / Kingsford Chevrolet for JTG Daugherty Racing. Joey Logano is the defending champion, one of his four victories on the season. In seven starts at the Glen, that was his only victory. He will look to take the checkers again in the No. 22 Shell Pennzoil Ford for Team Penske.
This year there are 40 cars entered so everyone will make the race.
For those who plan to watch the race, there is one major change. Because of Olympic coverage on NBC and NBC Sports Network, the Cheez-It 355 at The Glen will be moved to the USA Network.
The details for Sunday are as follows:
Date: Sunday, August 7, 2016
Start Time: 2:30 p.m. ET
Location: Watkins Glen, NY
TV Info: USA Network
Radio: MRN
