Not everybody won during the 2016 MLB trade deadline. Here are five teams that can be identified as losers after the August 1st non-waiver trade deadline.

The non-waiver trade deadline came and went in Major League Baseball on Monday, August 1st. While some teams were able to upgrade their rosters significantly in the days leading up to the 4 p.m. Eastern MLB Trade deadline on Monday, there were a few teams that either made questionable moves or sat there and did nothing.

With about half of the league still in the mix for the 2016 MLB postseason, those top-half teams may have needed to add either that one arm or that one bat to really solidify themselves as playoff contenders.

On the other side of the coin, there are about 15 teams that don’t really have a realistic shot at qualifying for the 2016 MLB postseason with their sub-.500 regular season records through four months of 2016. These clubs had the opportunity to sell some of the marquee players on tradable contracts in favor of bolstering their farm systems by acquiring top minor league prospects.

Regardless of playoff position, or lack thereof in some cases, teams on both ends of the spectrum were able to take advantage of the final days before the non-waiver MLB trade deadline. However, these five teams could have done a better job down the stretch before Monday’s final bell. Here are the five losers of the 2016 MLB trade deadline.
