Taking a look at the five biggest winners from the 2016 MLB Trade Deadline

More so than with any other sport, the MLB Trade Deadline is one of the most frenetic, exhilarating, and simply fun times of the year in baseball. There are teams trying to fill the holes in their lineup, the holes in their rotation, and the holes in their bullpen to try and make a World Series push, but so too are there the teams that realize they’re heading nowhere and simply just start selling anyone and everyone that they possibly can.

The 2016 MLB Trade Deadline was no different in that regard. In fact, you could make the argument that there was almost a bit more drama than normal in the weeks and days leading up to the deadline considering how tight many of the divisional races still are and considering how shallow the player pools were for many of the positions of need for contenders (starting pitching, anyone?).

If that weren’t enough, the 2016 MLB Trade Deadline also brought us an endless array of Chris Sale rumors, Sale cutting up his team’s jerseys in the midst of these rumors in an unrelated incident, Jonathan Lucroy vetoing a trade, and so much more drama.

When the dust settled, though, Sale was still with the Chicago White Sox, Lucroy had been traded, and every team was left sitting back and assessing what they’d accomplished at the 2016 MLB Trade Deadline.

So let’s do the same, looking at the teams that made the right moves and put themselves in a better position in one way or another. These are the five biggest winners of the 2016 MLB Trade Deadline.
