5. Los Angeles Dodgers

Despite how dominant that the San Francisco Giants have been for much of the season, there were two things that stood out in the NL West coming into the MLB Trade Deadline. The first was that the Giants were looking to make moves to improve (which they did) while the second was that the Los Angeles Dodgers had put themselves in a position to only be two games back coming into August. As such, the Dodgers were essentially forced to make moves.

While LA may not have been able to unload Yasiel Puig or anything like that, to say that the Dodgers weren’t able to make a splash would be flat-out lying. The club was able to strike a deal with the Oakland Athletics that landed them a needed and good hand in the outfield in Josh Reddick in addition to bolstering their starting rotation with the red-hot Rich Hill. The Dodgers weren’t done there just before the deadline either as they also went out and got a great reliever in Jesse Chavez.

Seeing how close things are in the NL West, the MLB Trade Deadline for the Dodgers and Giants was essentially a race to see who could ultimately make the moves with the biggest impact. In the end, it seems to me like it was the Dodgers that came ahead in that regard and that makes them one of the biggest winners from throughout the league.
