It looks like Apple has truly made a statement about their stance on the whole gun controversy by replacing the pistol emoji with a water gun.
With the new iPhone and iPad operating system, iOS 10, Apple is officially replacing the pistol emoji with a water gun emoji. With recent events about the emojis being very controversial and getting people in trouble with the law, the company feels that they had to do something about it. CNNMoney reported the news.
It looks like the pistol emoji is one of many that is being replaced or removed by Apple. But there are also some new emojis that are being added. For example, the company will introduce a brand new set of emojis that show women doing jobs that men usually do, such as construction and being a police officer, so that stereotypes for this sort of thing can be forgotten about.

A rifle emoji promoting the Olympics has also been scratched by the company since many members believed that it would be a bit controversial.
It’s pretty obvious that Apple is trying to show respect and be politically correct for many of their consumers who may find these emojis disrespectful, and Apple wants to avoid any unnecessary controversy. All of it sounds a bit bizarre and unnecessary, but many people have been calling for Apple to do this, such as an organization known as New Yorkers Against Gun Violence, who have been campaigning for Apple to replace the pistol emoji.
Overall, if you support the gun control movement, then this isn’t much of a change, but it’s definitely a minor step in the right direction.
