The Dallas Cowboys have a backup quarterback dilemma on their hands after Kellen Moore’s injury. Will Dallas be in the market to acquire Nick Foles?

According to ESPN’s Ed Werder, “the Dallas Cowboys, after losing backup quarterback Kellen Moore to a right leg fracture, are considering Nick Foles as an option but are also discussing potential trades.”

Foles was the starting quarterback for the 2015 St. Louis Rams, but fell out of favor with the Rams organization are being largely ineffective quarterbacking the worst passing offense in football last year.

The Rams, now in Los Angeles, traded up to get the No. 1 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft to select California Golden Bears star quarterback Jared Goff. Are being unable to trade Foles this offseason, Rams general manager Les Snead cut the former Pro Bowl quarterback and four-year NFL veteran passer.

Werder wrote that Dallas was one of the teams interested in trading for Foles as a potential backup quarterback behind face of the franchise Tony Romo, but elected to draft Mississippi State Bulldogs star Dak Prescott in the 2016 NFL Draft instead.

Prescott could be in the mix to land the backup gig behind Romo, especially after Moore’s broken leg, but the growing belief is that Prescott will need at least a year or two to adjust to the NFL passing game coming from a run-heavy Mississippi State offense under head coach Dan Mullen.

Other quarterbacks that Dallas is reportedly interested include the Cleveland Brown’s Josh McCown or the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Mike Glennon. The Cowboys would have to put together an interesting trade package to land either premier backup quarterback.

At this stage of his career, Foles is a more than capable backup and spot starter. As long as Dallas has a healthy Romo under center, the Cowboys can contend for a division title in the NFC East. Should Romo’s health fade like it did in 2015, the Cowboys will need a better quarterback option than they had last year to essentially tread water.

Foles is a solid backup quarterback option, it is completely understandable how a team with obvious quarterbacking depth issues have high interest in him. Dallas feels like a likely landing spot for Foles this offseason.
