Nick Foles’ name has been linked to several teams since being let go by the Los Angeles Rams. Any team in the market for a backup quarterback can look to Foles as a great insurance policy.

With so many teams in need of an experienced backup, it makes sense that several teams will be connected to Foles until he signs somewhere in 2016. The latest team rumored to be interested in the 27-year-old quarterback is one in need of some experience at the backup quarterback position. According to Adam Schefter, the Chiefs are trying to sign Foles to reunite him with Andy Reid who drafted him out of Arizona when he was with the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Kansas City Chiefs have Alex Smith as the starting quarterback and relied on Chase Daniel as his primary backup the past three seasons. But Daniel left this offseason to join the Philadelphia Eagles, leaving the Chiefs without some inexperienced backups.

Aaron Murray, Kevin Hogan and Tyler Bray are on the Chiefs roster right now, and while all had success in college, none of the three are proven commodities.

Hogan is the newest member of the group, after being drafted this year out of Stanford, but the Chiefs are a playoff team looking for a quarterback who can not only help in the QB room but also step in and keep up the production if Smith goes down.

Murray, Hogan and Bray may be capable of that, but Foles provides a proven option who has had success in the NFL. For a team with playoff aspirations, it is better to go with experience and proven success over potential. Folks is not an elite quarterback, but he still has won in the NFL and knows what it takes to run an offense.

If the Chiefs want Foles, they will have to move fast. The Dallas Cowboys may be looking to sign Foles after an injury to presumptive backup quarterback Kellen Moore Tuesday.
